Feature: Arn Chorn-Pond
As a chid, Arn Chorn-Pond survived the horrors of the Khmer Rouge regime by playing revolutionary songs on the flute. Today, he is an internationally recognized human rights leader and speaker, the recipient of the Reebok Human Rights Award, the Anne Frank Memorial Award, and the Kohl Foundation International Peace Prize. He is also the subject of the Emmy-nominated documentary, The Flute Player.
As the founder of Cambodian Living Arts, formerly known as the Cambodian Master Performers Program, Arn has dedicated his life to healing and to helping others heal from the trauma of violence and war, bringing solace and renewal to war-torn Cambodia by helping to revive its great artistic traditions.
Students
CLA supports nearly 300 students in music classes throughout Cambodia, providing them with lessons, a monthly stipend, and instruments to practice on, as well as performance, networking, and peer learning and teaching opportunities. CLA also provides scholarships to exceptional students who have been designated by a panel of teachers as likely future masters of their craft.
